GivingGrinch.com's goal is to help readers understand their true needs and provide solutions to fulfill those needs in a financially responsible manner.
What's a "Giving Grinch?"
A Grinch seeks pleasure by depriving others of what they need to be happy and fulfilled. In terms of personal budgets, a Grinch takes pleasure we are forced to cut back on the things that add value to our lifestyle. In our name, we juxtapose "giving" because...
...A BUDGET CAN ONLY BE SUCCESSFUL IF IT BALANCES BOTH FINANCIAL AND EMOTIONAL NEEDS.
System
The system is based on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Depicted as a pyramid Maslow's Hierarchy categorizes an individual's needs into five levels: physiological, safety, social, esteem and self actualization.
On this site we discuss the bottom four levels and tie the fulfillment of these needs with how an individual should structure their budget. To get a full appreciation of our system, please read the pages in this order:
- Basic or Physiological (hunger, thirst)
- Safety (security, protection)
- Social (sense of belonging, love)
- Esteem (recognition, status)

- Make certain physiological and safety needs, based on your financial situation, are met as economically as necessary so higher level needs can be pursued and accomplished.
- Ensure that social and esteem pursuits are not being funded at the expense of physiological and safety needs.
- Recognizes that esteem needs can not be bought, but rather pursued within ourselves. Good money management can help clarify your mind so you can build esteem.
